Barry currently serves as the Chief Operating Officer for IBM Infrastructure, a division known for providing exceptional performance, security, and resiliency in hybrid environments for mission-critical, trusted, or regulated applications. The portfolio of solutions includes IBM Z, IBM Power, IBM Storage, IBM Cloud, and IBM Technology Lifecycle Services.
As the COO, Barry leads across all business units and functions, ensuring the execution and delivery of IBM Infrastructure’s strategic objectives. Additionally, he holds direct responsibility for IBM’s Supply Chain. Prior to his current role, Barry held the position of Product Management leader for IBM Z and LinuxONE, where he was responsible for strategy, product/offering management, and the overall business of IBM Z and LinuxONE. This encompassed platform design and development, operating systems, and growth investments in hybrid cloud, security, data and AI, and ecosystem.
Before that, Barry served as Vice President of IBM Z Software, where he had responsibility for the IBM Z Software portfolio. His role included overseeing strategy, product/offering management, software design and development, support, and site reliability engineering. The scope covered various areas such as hybrid cloud, application serving, transaction and data processing, enterprise modernization, compilers and DevOps, and IT service management and optimization.
Throughout his more than 20 years at IBM, Barry has held numerous leadership positions, with a strong focus on the development, delivery, and support of mission-critical infrastructure, operating systems, middleware, and database software. He has also completed assignments in Corporate Technology and Corporate Marketing. Notably, Barry served as a Technical/Executive Assistant to the IBM General Manager of the Information Management Business Unit.
Barry holds a B.S. in Computer Engineering from Union College and an M.Eng. in Computer Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He resides in Ridgefield, CT, with his wife and their two children. Barry’s career began as a software developer, specializing in operating system and middleware architecture, design, development, and support. It is safe to say that if you have used a credit card, flown on an airplane, or stayed at a hotel, chances are you have used code that Barry has written.
