James Elwes is the Operations Director for Asia and Middle East and CIO for International Markets for Asia, HSBC. He is responsible for all planning, operations, workforce management and portfolio management for technology across the region and leads technology teams across 10 international markets. With over 18 years of experience at HSBC, James has held various key management roles spanning CIO for Asia Pacific, COO for HSBC Indonesia, COO for HSBC Qatar and roles across commercial banking.
James is an experienced executive with broad international exposure having lived and worked in seven countries across Asia, Middle East, Europe and North America. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Economics from University of Newcastle and Master of Business Administration from London Business School.
James is passionate about supporting talent within the organisation and creating diverse, motivated and high-performing teams across the region as well as helping to encourage innovation at all levels across the teams.
