WELCOME NOTE

CISO on the Warpath: Resetting the Battleground to Our Advantage

Cyber security threats and breaches have been among those highly compromised since the global pandemic struck in 2020. Parallel to this, most organisations across the globe have elevated cyber security to the top of the business agenda, making them a board-level issue and todays’ CISOs hold a more critical role than ever.

Throughout 2021, CISOs and cyber security decision-makers have found themselves busy with the continued uncertainty around COVID-19 restrictions, securing digital transformation initiatives, hybrid remote workspaces, constantly evolving cyber incidents and increased use of software for remote working – all added to the complexity of protecting company and customer data.

Also, as a consequence of the widespread availability and use of computing technology and fast-changing data protection landscape in recent years, ASEAN businesses are often challenged by cyber security threats which cause businesses to suffer from data loss, among a few.

As we enter 2022, the cyber security challenges that accompany the pandemic, unfortunately, persist, prompting CISOs and security leaders in the region to stay abreast of the fast-evolving threat landscape and innovations in cloud computing and other technological advances that potentially open up new threats in unexpected areas.

CXOCIETY is pleased to launch our FutureCISO ASEAN vSummit under the theme “CISO on the Warpath: Resetting the Battleground to Our Advantage”.

Taking place on Thursday 31 March 2022 from 9am to 12:15pm SGT/MYT, the FutureCISO ASEAN vSummit will gather senior information security professionals from multiple industries across ASEAN to address CISOs’ top security trends, concerns and business priorities this year. FIRESIDE CHAT I: Being a CISO in 2022: CISO as a Business Leader

Gartner estimates by 2025, 40% of boards of directors will have a dedicated cyber security committee overseen by a qualified board member, up from less than 10% today. This means that cyber security risk at an enterprise level is not only a board discussion but also a personal liability for board members.

Once seen as a barrier to innovation, CISOs are now seen as a key enabler of digital business as they help their organisations achieve strategic goals by removing security obstacles to digital transformation and accelerating faster adoption.

  • The business value of security
  • Aligning enterprise security with business objectives
  • Managing expectations with the C-Suite and the Board
  • Getting the Board’s Buy-in on cyber security initiatives: How to present to the Board effectively
  • Post-pandemic responsibilities for modern CISO: New role, new demands, new skill sets and qualifications

PANEL DISCUSSION I: Forward-Looking Data Privacy Protection Strategies for the Year Ahead

Ransomware, malwares, phishing and data breaches are persisting problems for most organisations, even for those with big security budgets. Since the attack surface will continue to expand as ways of working evolve and a lot of data breaches and problem actually stem from human errors, security leaders need to stay one step ahead of threat actors. Security and recovery strategies put in place must be more thorough and practiced, covering not only on-premises data but also data in the cloud and everywhere in between.

  • Re-evaluating data privacy policies, including DPIA, to improve compliance and data sovereignty
  • Frameworks for consistent data control: Striking the balance between data agility and data privacy
  • Enhancing data governance to fuel data security
  • Enabling data protection in multi-cloud and hybrid cloud environments with identity security
  • Implementing a holistic approach for data protection and recovery in the global supply chain

FIRESIDE CHAT II: Operationalising Zero Trust: Practical Strategies for Success

The cloud and remote work have removed traditional security boundaries. As a security leader, the responsibility rests squarely on your shoulders to prevent compromise, lateral movement of attacks, and data loss. Zero Trust (ZT) is an approach to your overall security architecture where you challenge everything and trust nothing – your most powerful secret weapon.

  • Laying down the framework for ZT for your organisation
  • Identifying factors that hinder ZT adoption, especially compared to global adoption
  • The business benefits that organisation or industry gain from ZT
  • The stakeholders when it comes to ZT implementation and justifying the journey
  • Leveraging ZT to improve organizational agility and security simultaneously

KEYNOTE II: Enabling End-to-End Supply Chain Security

As development processes and global technology supply chain for devices become increasingly diverse and complex, supply chain vulnerabilities and the attacks grow. Therefore, it is critical that the hardware, software and systems that drive the digital ecosystem are both trusted and secured.

  • Assessing third party security and risks
  • Bracing for log4j vulnerabilities fallout on supply chain security
  • Ensuring trust and ‘security-first’ mind-set in the digital ecosystem
  • Establishing vendors and business partners’ security management systems to mitigate critical risks
  • Best practices in effectively governing supply chains risks from end to end
