Technology is transforming the banking industry across a multitude of planes – from improving customer experience to increasing security and productivity. Financial institutions are rapidly modernizing to stay competitive in the face of fintech, insurtech, and automation trends. Bain & Company says banks leading in technology deliver an average of 5 percentage points higher total shareholder return, 10 percentage points lower cost-to-income ratio, and 12 points higher Net Promoter Score than their peers.
To enhance digital customer experiences (35%), they are adopting observability for real-time insights into their tech infrastructure. Respondents to the State of Observability for Financial Services and Insurance report, cited the key drivers for this rush to become digital-native and digital-first models include multi-cloud migration (43%), AI adoption (38%), and regulatory compliance (54%). Central to this transformation will be observability. Gartner defines observability as “the evolution of monitoring into a process that offers insight into digital business applications, speeds innovation and enhances customer experience.”
For the digital leader, observability is the ability to provide real-time visibility into their infrastructure and software architecture, allowing for faster, more accurate decision-making, accelerated innovation, and improved system uptime and reliability.
However, this race to become digital-native and digital-first comes with a steep price: an increasingly complex tech stacks that may, sooner than later, will require technology leaders to make intentional choices across the business to fuel the radical transformation taking place in banking – Bank 4.0.
