Dr. Waqas Khalid Obeidy is the Head of Research & Development at Payments Network Malaysia (PayNet), with over a decade of experience in banking technology, cybersecurity, and intelligent automation. He leads strategic R&D initiatives in Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing, including the development of agentic AI solutions, sovereign AI inference infrastructure, model fine-tuning and post-training, and emerging technology risk management.
Dr. Waqas holds a PhD in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) from the National University of Malaysia (UKM) and is a Certified Quantum Security Professional (CQSP) accredited by ANAB (ISO/IEC 17024). His work focuses on advancing secure AI capabilities and strengthening the resilience of critical financial infrastructure against emerging technological threats.
